While Texas is known for its highways, we’re not all about roads. Texas has a significant marine transportation system.

Texas has numerous ports along the Gulf Coast to transport freight entering and leaving the state as well as ports used by passenger cruise lines. TxDOT also operates ferries. Learn more by following the links below.

  • TxDOT operates ferries in Galveston and Port Aransas as part of the highway system. The ferries are in service year-round, 24 hours a day. Consult the ferry schedule for more information.
  • The Maritime Division promotes and supports the development and intermodal connectivity of Texas ports, the Texas stetch of the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway and marine infrastructure and operations.
